Minneapolis is so much cleaner than most places. St. Paul is too.

What’s Salt Lake City got that we don’t in the Twin Cities? Less trash, evidently.

Travel and Leisure magazine’s readers named us the second cleanest city in the country, right behind the city that gave us Donny and Marie. And let’s face it, you can’t get much cleaner than an Osmond. (Prince? Don’t even go there.)

So thanks, T&L readers. That’s some tough competition.

Still, a little grittiness might be OK, no? Check out the city in last place, the city with which we share proximity to the mighty Mississippi, and damned little else: New Orleans. Trade-offs for being America’s trashiest city: Mardi Gras, gumbo and a football team that can actually win a Super Bowl.

Then again, there’s that whole pesky hurricane issue. So maybe we’re better off upriver.

Here’s T&L’s Top 5 cleanest American cities.

1. Salt Lake City, UT
2. Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN
3. Portland, OR
4. Denver, CO
5. Charleston, SC

And here are the filthiest:

1. New Orleans, LA
2. Philadelphia, PA
3. Los Angeles, CA
4. Memphis, TN
5. New York City, NY

South Metro Market

Being in real estate is definitely a line of work that keeps me on my toes and looking at the papers, internet & talking with other agents quit often.  Especially in the market we are in.  With the number of foreclosures, short sales and some just trying to do a regular sale, keeps me always looking to educate myself so my clients get top notch service, knowledge and answers to their questions that are to the best of my knowledge.  With that is knowing what is available on the market and what my clients needs are.

Let’s look at a high demand neighborhood that many thought they could never live in.  I will not say you can purchase a home for pennies on the dollar by any means, but have you looked at the prices lately in The Wilds Neighborhood Golf community?  Well, don’t waste another second…they are INCREDIBLE!   To live in a neighborhood that centers around one of the top golf course in America, close to recreational endeavors, small town feel but only minutes from bit town living, a short community to the Mall of America and so much more.

Here are some examples:

3 bedroom, 3 bath executive townhouse on the golf course sold just over 6 years ago for $380,000.00.  Well, believe it or not this home is now pending to be sold with a list price of $275,000.00.  Did I mention pending? Yes, it is going to be closed and word on the street is it will be lower than the list price even.

Single family home is what you are looking for? There are the same sort of deals out there as the one mentioned above.  Some are on the course, some have pools & some well you would just gasp if you saw what they offered on the inside!

So, when THE SPIRITS TO MOVE, hits you…contact Vickie Gylling at RE/MAX Advantage Plus or check out her website at www.VickieGylling.com and get quality service, knowledge & care you deserve when making such a decision.

Dome roof to your roof

The most talked about news over the past week-end was the winter snow storm that dropped anywhere from 17-24 inches of snow depending on where you were in the Minneapolis/St. Paul Minnesota and surrounding areas.  By the time the storm moved on…the cities stayed still! Snowplows & metro bus’ were pulled off the road, the Mall of America closed their doors, people had snow up to their waists in some driveways and the METRO DOME roof collapsed!!!  Oh no! Thank goodness there was no one in when the collapse happened (and a quick shout out to the person that decided to leave the cameras on inside to capture it for the world to see).  This raises a question that most people may not think about:

Should I clear my roof of snow accumulations?

Yes!  If you live in a single family roof you most definitely should.  The weight of the snow can also cause your personal roof to collapse or it may create ice damns.  What are ice damns you ask.  These are areas on the roof where the snow has started to melt during the day but the liquid refreezes at night and over a process of time, this causes a damn to build that will not let the water run down the outside of your home, but the INSIDE eventually and may cause a very expensive problem for you over the winter months.  If you live in an association style home or townhouse/condo, contact your association for information on how they handle these situations.

So you say, I am supposed to get up on my roof that is how high with how much snow?!?! You are  thinking I am crazy! If you are the adventurous type, go for it, but make sure your insurance policy is up to date & someone is helping you or know to check on you once in a while! If you are not so sure, there are companies you can hire to clear it for you.  Search your local area to find the one that suits your needs & financial interests.

Keep an eye to the sky and your roof to make sure your dome doesn’t collapse on you this holiday season! Make sure your SPIRITS TO MOVE are decided by you and not Mother Nature!
